Hi trying to build first PC using the Asus hero 6 and am wondering whether or not to peel off the padding on io shield as it seems to not let me line up mono in case correctly. First build please help.

Solution
Leave the padding there. It is used to ground the shield.

Your problem is with installation.

1. Make certain that the shield is securely fitted into the case opening. You need to press all the way around so it fits fully flush.

2. Installing the motherboard ideally takes three hands. one to hold the case, one to push the motherboard into the I/o shield, and one to put the first motherboard screw into the hole nearest to the I/o shield. (a #2 magnetic tip screwdriver helps)
You could I suppose.... though you may end up with a rattle back there eventually. I think the padding is mostly designed for back pressure against the motherboard to dampen any vibrations and possibly provide electrical grounding of the shield to the chassis as the I/O plate is usually the first thing to contact a new peripheral being plugged into your rig.

I had to leave mine off of my last build due to a bent chassis that made it nearly impossible to line anything up with it on.

Solution

Feel around the edges. The shield should be in evenly all around.
The shield has some bumps/ridges that need to fit in behind the ridge in the case. It will feel like a little click.
It may actually take a bit of extra force to push the shield in.
