I finally got my HD Homerun PRIME connected and working on my network today :bounce:! Now I have some questions about the video quality on my network.

There are several phones, laptops, computers, and a PS3 all connected via Wifi to a Netgear N600 dual band router. Problems start occurring when multiple devices are connected.

I think the biggest issue is that the PS3 is a very old version, and IIRC, it only has 802.11b. I know that at least one of the laptops have 802.11g, and the wireless PCI cards in the desktop and HTPC are 802.11n.

Am I wrong? Does a dual-band router only support 2 standards at a time? The biggest problems I have seen so far is when my son is watching Netflix on the PS3.

EDIT: If this is the issue, I could run Ethernet to the PS3. Not ideal, but...

Any expertise on this issue is greatly appreciated!

Many routers can handle multiple standards like b/g/n, but you do not want that to happen. And some concurrent dual band routers can run b/g/n on 2.4GHz and a/n on 5GHz. But running legacy wireless kills your total bandwidth. Cisco says that turning off B will increase throughput on G networks by 367%, I have the white paper available on request.

Of course if you run G/N, then your N is limited to 54Mbps (optimal maximum value right next to the router), defeating the purpose of having N in the first place.

You would definitely benefit from running the PS3 off Ethernet.
