Why you need to plug into your PC. You don't have an internal cd/dvd drive. It's better not to install Windows XP because windows will not be releasing any security patches for Windows XP. You can either install Vista only or winodws 7 if your laptop supports. If you don't have an internal CD/DVD ROM drive then you can use an external CD/DVD ROM or else you can make a bootable Windows USB drive and use it to install windows in your laptop.

You can check my article http://www.kundanstech.com/making-a-bootable-windows-8-... for creating a bootable windows usb. Although it is for Windows 8 you can create windows 7 bootable usb drive following the same procedure. You can change the Boot order in BIOS and make the computer boot with USB
