Hey guys, thanks in advance to any answers you all can provide. I just got my new FX 6300 CPU in the mail today, so I popped out my old Athlon 2 X270, slapped the FX in, and my comp started fine with my normal Ram setup, which is a 4gb RAM stick in my first mobo slot, and a 2gb in the second. (Only 2 slots in my mini mobo., Biostar A960D +) Well, my comp wasn't working super fast so I checked BIOS. Lo and behold, I'm only using 2046 gb of RAM. But, before I swapped CPUs I could use both RAM sticks cause I have windows 7. So, I tried to reseat and reboot, but ... no signal. So, I did a bunch of reseating and found out I can only boot up now with 1 RAM stick. CRAP. How do I fix this?? I should mention that I did use the BCDEDIT INCREASEUSERVA 6000 Command, so that could do something, but why the heck can't I use both my Ram cards after changing the CPU?? They are not related! Anyways, please help me if you can, and again, thanks for any answers you guys have...

Yep, I would update your BIOS and make sure you've manually set the RAM speed/timings/voltage to the RAM manufacturer specs in the BIOS. It sounds like you got lucky getting your previous configuration to work without errors. Using mis-matched modules like that is kind of asking for problems, especially if they have different specs or are made by different manufacturers.

I already updated my BIOS. Honestly, biostar sucks, but it worked before. Now I know the sticks didn't go bad cause I tested both of them solo, and they run fine, but I want to get that dual channel working again. And I only have a 2 gig and a 4 gig stick.

Now how would I manually set up the timings and voltages in BIOS?

Your motherboard owners manual will tell you how to manually set the RAM speed/timings/voltage. The manual I found online has that information starting on page 30. It's under the Performance tab in the BIOS.

But I can't even get to bios with 2 sticks in now.

Use one stick to manually set the RAM speed/timings/voltage to the lowest common denominator between the two sticks of RAM. You'll want to set them to the lowest speed, loosest timings, and highest voltage if the RAM doesn't have the same specs. Like I said, I'm surprised this ever worked at all, especially without manually changing any settings in the BIOS.

I'm curious why you made this statement. Are you using 64-bit Windows 7? If not, there is no benefit to running 6GB over 4GB since a 32-bit OS can't even fully utilize 4GB of RAM.

Yeah, I should probably get another 4gig anyways. Besides, the only thing it can do is make it faster. Anyone know of a good cheap 4gig ddr3? My current one is a samsung I won on ebay.

Look at the numbers on the label for your current ram. Google the model number and try to find a stick of the same model.

That's excellent advice. Just picking another random 4GB stick will cause the same issues we're trying to resolve here. Hopefully the same model is still available.

*sigh. Guess I should buy more stuff for this. I swear, sometimes, I feel like I'm throwing money into a fire trying to make this thing perfect, just dreaming of the day when I can play hi def games without a hitch at +60 fps. I guess we all do it for that dream.

The more I research your issue the more it becomes apparent that you are using a 32-bit OS. The hack mentioned in your OP was to get over the 2GB per application limit in a 32-bit OS. The hack will not allow you to use more than 4GB of RAM with a 32-bit OS. I would run this command to get rid of the hack and remove your 2GB stick of RAM. It's doing nothing but making your system unstable if you're running a 32-bit OS. bcdedit /deletevalue IncreaseUserVa

Well here's the strange thing about that, I upgraded from 32 bit xp to a 64 bit copy of 7. Yet STILL my OS runs in 32 bit somehow. I called microsoft, and of course a little Indian guy told me it was because my graphics card had a 32 bit driver. But when I installed a 64 bit driver nothing changed! I swear this is so confusing. But thanks for the help guys, really, the fact you guys would spend time to help me with my problem is really kind.

If you did a fresh install of 64-bit Windows 7 then you should be able to use more than 4GB of RAM. What makes you say your "OS runs in 32 bit somehow"? What does it say under Windows edition when you go to the computer properties screen? It's either a 32-bit OS or 64-bit OS. A 64-bit OS will have two software installation directories on the C:\ drive, one for 64-bit applications (Program files) and another for 32-bit applications (Program files (x86)). Do you have both installation directories?

I would still remove the 2GB stick for now so you can use your system. Then you can do what was suggested and google the model number of your 4GB stick to see if you can pick up another one.

For some magical reason, I go the dxdiag and it says windows 7 64 bit. But when I hit ctrl alt delete, my processes, such as games and apps, all have an asterisk and 32 beside them. And when I go to AMD Catalyst control system, it says display is at 32 bit. Crazy right?

Nope, it makes sense now. Because 64-bit Windows allows you to install 32-bit applications the task manager just flags the 32-bit applications so you know they are 32-bit applications. There is nothing wrong with that. As far as your display, 32-bit has nothing to do with your operating system. In that case 32-bit is just talking about the color depth of the display. It looks like your 64-bit OS is working like it should.

Well thank you. That's good. But then how do I get 64 bit games and apps?

So then how do I get 64 bit color on my desktop and windows itself?
