It's one of a few moments that I cannot grasp whole picture of new technology: Steam Machine/OS. So far it sounds to me like a glorified Shield, in a sense that both can stream game "screen" from a separate gaming PC to a different display, TV and Shield-built-in display, respectively. However, looking at the specs and pricing of the steam machine, I'm afraid that I am missing key features. Can someone demonstrate how Steam machine will be different from a gaming PC hooked up with TV, instead of computer monitor? If you connect your steam machine to your TV, why bother to stream game from another gaming PC, instead of running the game from the machine itself?

Its just marketing so you buy prepriotory hardware. It'll always be better to use a self built computer to game on a tv. Steam is is free anyways so you can always try the os on any computer though I dont see its point as it doesn't support nearly as many games as windows does
