So I recently built my PC. I have added two storage devices. One is a Samsung Electronics 840 EVO-Series 120GB (which is working just fine) and the other is Seagate Barracuda 1 TB HDD SATA (which is not working). I ordered the Seagate on Amazon and it came with no wires or installation discs. Every time I go on my device manager, the Seagate does not appear in the disc drives. I am quite new to stuff like this since this is my first PC build. When I go to Other devices, two things appear: SM Bus Controller and Unknown Device (perhaps this is the hard drive?) I attempted to download the driver for the device, but Seagate apparently does not provide it (or at least make it really hard to locate it). However, I have come across other downloads titled "Seagate Driver" and I am given software that merely detects the devices that need updating such as DriverTool software, but to no avail, the hard drive was still not detected. I have made sure that the wires are securely plugged (that is the SATA cord and the power cord). Is the device broken? Did I connect the SATA wire to the wrong part on the motherboard because it's in the same area where the Samsung EVO is? Help? :??:  :??:

Open Disk Management (its in Control Panel)
Hopefully, you should see that as Disk 1. The SSD should be Disk 0.

Assuming the new Seagate is Disk 1, rightclick on the Disk 1. What options does it give you?

Mark Partition as Active, Format, Drive letter

Mark it as active, then give it a drive letter.

Ok I opened up the disk management, but sadly, there was nothing showing the Seagate hard drive, there was only the Samsung device that's working fine :(  . Would this be an issue with the cable hookup? I am quite sure I hooked it up in the right spot, but if this case certainly calls for me to check again, I'll go for it. Or is there perhaps a compatibility issue? Also, I don't know if it's worth mentioning, but there is another slot in the storage device for another cord which I have not used yet. I have watched many videos on hard drive setups, but most people seem to ignore this extra slot (the only slots that were used were the SATA cord and the Power cord slots).

Compatibility should not be an issue. SATA is SATA.
Does it appear in the BIOS? If not, then I'd suspect a cabling issue.
