I have been looking at many Keyboards. Ive looked at mechanical and normal ones. I really want to know, which one will last longer. Will a mechanical or a normal keyboard last me longer. I wont be hardcore gaming. I want to find a good one which will last me longer and for a good cheap price. If you can link me a good cheap keyboard that you think will last me a good 2/3 years and is at a good price.

Thanks in advance. :D

Mechanical keyboards are far superior, and most boast to last "millions" of keystrokes.

I initially had a Steelseries with black switches and I hated it, because I couldn't tell when I did and did not press the button.

I ended up with a 150$ Filco Majestictouch with MX Cherry brown switches and I absolutely LOVE IT. The build quality of the Filco was much better that the Steelseries as well.

If you plan to go with mechanical keyboard, do some research. The black switches don't have a tactile feel, which means you don't know when you reach the actuation of the switch, which drove me nuts but is supposedly usefull for FPS gamers... The blues and I think reds are pretty loud... Every time you press the buttons it makes clickity clack...

Honestly, ever since i made the switch from membrane keyboards to mechanical keyboards, I've never looked back. Now when I have to use a membrane keyboard, they just feel... mushy. The main downside to mechanical kb is that they are a little expensive; usually the cheapest starts around $50-60 and easily can reach upwards of $150+. In addition, the noise it produces may take a little getting used to. Overall, if you're willing to spend I'd say go for a mechanical keyboard. Once you go mechanical, I doubt you'll ever want to switch back.

The browns are great because they aren't horribly loud, but still have an actuation point were you can tell you made a successfull keystroke.

If you could go to a local computer store and feel the difference I highly recommend you do so. I bought the Steelseries black blindly based on other peoples reviews and absolutely hated it.

You should also check some non-mechanical keyboards. The most recent membranes models are far more durable than before and in my opinion, only gets a mechanical keyboard for the durability of the keys is a waste of money.

Look at Logitech keyboards. They are really good !

I don't disagree here. I had a logitech keyboard with the little LCD screen on it, and it worked great. Keys still felt good after years of abuse when I replaced it.

I am one of the guys that bought a mechanical keyboard and will never go back - much like I bought an IPS monitor and will never go back to TN.

It's a matter of preference really, but both types of keyboards will last years and years if they are a well made brand.

The one true advantage mechanical keyboards offer is the ability to press all the keys at the same time which a membrane keyboard can NOT do... Not that it makes any difference. Other than that its just preference of how it feels .
