Eventually upgrading my pc mainly for gaming is it worth changing my cpu? Is it really going to deliver more preformance than I already have?

Definetly not worth it.

If anything, I would either wait for Broadwell or Skylake (next generation Intel processors), or get a better graphics card, such as the GTX 780/780 Ti, R9 290, perhaps an SSD if you don't have one.

Those will actually deliver results you can see, in a real world situation, with your current CPU- there is basically no difference unless you go to the professional side of CPUs.

Have a great day.

It wouldn't require any of those things as the 2300 uses the same 1155 pin connector which is on my motherboard along with ddr3 ran and a OS disc that can be used again?
