I am upgrading my cpu and mobo. I am also looking to add 120gb ssd. I currently have a 1tb hard drive with windows 7 on it. When I install my new mobo and cpu I would like to put the fresh install of windows 7 on the ssd. When doing that should I keep my 1tb hard drive unplugged and when windows 7 installs on my ssd plug it back in? Or do I have to erase that hard drive then plug it back in, if so how would I erase whats on there? Then after I erase it and plug it back into my computer how do I make it so its ready to use for windows 7? Also I am a newbie to computers if someone could give me clear directions it would be much appreciated, thanks. :D

Solution
Have the HDD disconnected when you install on the SSD. After everything is working, you can reconnect and wipe as desired.
After the install on the SSD, ensure your boot order is correct. DVD, then SSD, then nothing. Take the HDD completely out of the sequence.

After that, it's just another drive letter. Probably D.

When I install windows 7 on the ssd and reconnect the hard drive, how do i erase whats on that hard drive? Am I still able to access windows on the ssd and use like a software to erase whats on that hard drive and then like format it so I can use it or something? Sorry I've never done this before. I have the program ccleaner and when I install windows onto the ssd and reconnect the hard drive can I get onto windows 7 and erase the hard drive using ccleaner and after its wiped can I start using it again?

When you install Windows on the SSD, that becomes boss. It is the C drive. Whatever lives on the HDD is of no consequence.

Given that have the correct boot order (DVD, then SDD) you won't boot from whatever old OS might live on the HDD.
You can use whatever you want to erase the HDD. I'd suggest in Disk Management, and delete all the partitions, including the System Reserved partition on that drive.

Assuming you have only the SSD connected when you install Windows on the SSD. If you have both drives connected, weird things may happen.

So after windows is installed on the ssd and everything is running and I plug in the HDD, it will boot to the ssd and from there I can use CCleaner and wipe the HDD. After I wipe the HDD will I have to restart my computer or anything? And will I have to do anything so I can use the HDD or will windows like detect it and then I can start installing things onto it?

Yes. It will boot from the SSD, just like it used to boot from the HDD. That new drive will be the boss. What OS may or may not be on the HDD is of no consequence. That is not the 'Windows' that is running anymore.

(Assuming you've done everything right)
