I posted before but with no replies and I really need help, but I don't want to bring it to the tech shop just yet. So recently, I made a custom build, and all was fine, I installed my OS, and got all of my Windows 7 updates. The computer was being very slow, and I had to hard reset it with my power button. I installed Java, TF2, and Minecraft, and played Minecraft at over 100 FPS. I let TF2 install overnight, and when I restarted the computer, I had a blast playing it.(By this point I had installed the Chipset, Audio, Lan, and Graphics Driver). I turned off the computer and later in the day, it became abnormally slow, I couldn't even open the start menu. I turned it off again and this morning, I was able to navigate the menu quickly and play TF2 at max resolutions at over 70 FPS. I left the computer on after closing TF2(at 8:00), and came back at 3:30. I turned the computer off. After attempting to open Google Chrome, it slowed down significantly, and I had to once again hard shut down. I got a warning from my BIOS, and I reset my system. I installed all of my drivers, and Steam and my Games and Google Chrome were still there. i have no idea what to do and why the computer worked.
Specifications are:
AMD FX-6300 Six- Core Processor
Asus Radeon R9 270X GPU
G Skill. Sniper Series GB of DDR3 1866 MHz
Rosewill 600W PSU
Asus M5A97 LE R2 Motherboard
A 640 GB HDD that I got from my brother, which could be the problem, as it was used. It's Toshiba, and that's all I know. please help, I'm anxious to have my computer working.

That's the problem, I don't know what kind of Hard Drive it is. Would working fine and suddenly not be a symptom of a broken Hard Drive?
