the 290 isnt a bad card. it fairly tromps the gtx770

but it does run hot and hungry.

i wouldnt sell it... that would be silly.

if anything i'd just upgrade your psu to something a bit larger by either returning what you have if possible or if thats not then just getting one and selling off the psu. you will take a much smaller hit by doing this and the 290 will be very nice to have in your system.

Yea Im already kicking myself for that. I dont know if it will have enough juice when I start overclocking the 290. and I was also wondering what the overclocking capabilities of my mobo are? I didnt really research it much before I had bought it. I have the 8320 at 4.1 ghz right now and I am not sure how much further I can go with it.

so-so. the 970 is capable of overclocking but its not as stable as the 990x/990fx which are meant for serious o/c.

amd chips are power hogs when it comes to o/c and some can even draw almost double voltage. for o/c i'd have definitely went larger on the psu.

normally people o/c until instability occurs during testing (benchmarking/stress testing) and then they dial it back a bit so there would never be instability during daily use.

Good system for the price.

There is only two things I would say about it.

First, the PSU. I would have gone with something bigger and more reliable such as XFX or Seasonic. I don't trust EVGA power supplies.

Second, the GPU. Personally, with a 1000$ budget, I would have chose a GTX 760 or GTX 770 from NVIDIA and maybe save some money to put elsewhere (not because I am a NVIDIA fanboy, but aftermarkets cards from NVIDIA have better cooling, are less noisy and are factory overclocked. Plus, the drivers are better and they don't need as much power as R9 cards.)

Yea when stress testing on prime95 the 8320 is only at 51c max and I know the cpu and cooling can do more than 4.1 ghz I just dont want to fry my board. I read something about it having a 4+1 something I dont really remember and that it cannot handle too much heat

The 290 is hot and noisy thats for sure. I have the accelero extreme 3 and some extra heatsinks coming in this week, so hopefully that will help with those issues. I was trying to get the most fps and gaming power I could out of it. but I know I could have gotten something like the 770 and spent the extra money on a better psu.

That's exactly what I said. You could always sell your actual GPU and buy a GTX 760 or GTX 770 depending on your budget.

I would add to this that if you want to keep your actual GPU, make sure that you have a good ventilation in your case because first, the R9 290 runs hot but also, cases with acoustic foam tend to run hotter.

So, in the future, think of adding more fans or at least, better fans than the ones that comes with the case.

I have taken some fans out of an old case that I have and put in there and have a couple more silent fans on the way with that accelero extreme 3. I have the option to fill all the slots for fans but I want it to be as silent as possible so I will add more according to the temps I see. The built in fan controller is very convenient but only supports up to 3 fans. Im definitely keeping the 290 but I have a the 600B and another cx500 that I need to get rid of since I ordered the 500w first and realized it wouldnt be enough. So maybe the money I get from selling those could possibly get me a 750w or something. Id still like to know if theres anyway I could get around 4.5ghz or so on the cpu?

perhaps.... but above 4.2/4.3 on that chip and its all completely blind luck of the draw (if you get a lucky chip).

the 8350 has a higher binning (higher chances of getting a good chip which o/c better) and i've seen someone on this forum with a 5ghz o/c chip.

for that kind of o/c though i'd have used a 990x board.

i guess it depends on how extreme you wanted to get.
