How can I disable the shared graphics in my dv6-6135dx so the games only use the installed video card?

Hi. I have an HP Pavilion dv6-6135dx with the AMD A8-3500M processor and a dedicated graphics card. I was reading in the forums here that running the shared and dedicated graphics at the same time or together actually causes poor graphics/video performance. Is this true? And if so, how can I disable the shared graphics so the games use only the dedicated card and increase the quality? And is it something that you would recommend doing? Thank you for your time and help with this, and I hope you have a great 2014.

You can disable the on-board graphics in the BIOS settings, switch it to PCIe x16 and it should only be using the dedicated card you have.

As for APU+GPU performance, to me it seems like it would benefit but if...

As for APU+GPU performance, to me it seems like it would benefit but if you're getting poor performance then there is no doubt it doesn't help at all. Plus it will give your CPU more room to spread it's legs instead of having to take care of graphics & processing.
