Hi,

I'm currently in between upgrades and I was wondering if the following memory would be compatible with my current specs.

Memory in question is: Dominator Platinum with Corsair Link Connector — 1.65V 16GB Dual/Quad Channel DDR3 Memory Kit (CMD16GX3M4B2133C9)

Current System:
Motherboard:ASUS P5Q3 Deluxe
CPU: Core 2 Quad Q9550

Hi,

I did a little research based on the specs you've shown here, and from what I've seen the memory would be compatible to your board and cpu, but the memory would not get to 2133Mhz as stated in the Dominator Platinum, it would only run at 1333Mhz at maximum because 1.) your CPU has an FSB Speed of only 1333Mhz and 2.) your mobo supports up to 2000Mhz (but has to be overclocked) if this is the first time you've noticed this pls refer to this links I've found:

CPU: http://ark.intel.com/products/33924/Intel-Core2-Quad-Processor-Q9550-12M-Cache-2_83-GHz-1333-MHz-FSB
--Processor Number Q9550
--# of Cores 4
--Clock Speed 2.83 GHz
--L2 Cache 12 MB...

--Processor Number Q9550
--# of Cores 4
--Clock Speed 2.83 GHz
--L2 Cache 12 MB
--FSB Speed 1333 MHz

Motherboard: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5Q3_DeluxeWiFiAP_n/#specifications
--4 x DIMM, max. 16GB, DDR3 2000(O.C.) / 1600 / 1333 / 1066 MHz, Non ECC, un-buffered memory
--Dual channel memory architecture
--Supports Intel® Extreme Memory Profile (XMP)

So, if you're asking if it would be compatible to your system, it's a yes in my opinion, but would it run at the maximum speed your memory delivers? I think not. But it would still run otherwise.

This is only based on my research, please correct me if I'm wrong in anything. Hope this helps. :)

Yeah I think that's the case after some research myself, just wondering if my motherboard would run the ram due to voltages ect.

*added research on voltages with what you've mentioned, since the corsair memory would only run at SPD speed which is at 1333Mhz, from what I've read, it would also have an SPD Voltage of just 1.5V so based on your motherboard it should work just fine. But I would still recommend that you ask other people as well to make it clear 'coz I'm just stating facts from what I've read previously. Try contacting corsair support if you like.

**The motherboard supports DDR3 memory that features data transfer rates of 2000(O.C.)/1600/1333/1066/800 MHz. Furthermore, the supply voltage for the memory is reduced from 1.8 V for DDR2 to just 1.5 V for DDR3. This voltage reduction limits the power consumption and heat generation of DDR3 which makes it an ideal memory solution.
