Reinstalling OS on SSD

So, I've done three OS reinstalls for windows 8. When I boot up my computer it always requires me to select which volume I want. Right now it says Volume 3. When I reach the desktop and view my drives it says 22 Gb of 110 are free. I know windows is not that large of an OS and I suspect when I tell it to clean install it doesn't completely format the disk. What am I doing wrong and how do I completely erase my SSD and then install windows?

Wow thats really odd.
Other things you could have done,
gone into custom install, and deleted the partition and made a new NTFS partition.
Or best of all booted into a linux disk or gparted or something.

Just for the future :)
