I currently have the a8-5500 APU 3.5GHz and my gtx 760 suffers greatly because of this, I was wondering what kind of CPU preferably intel will fit my motherboard, I dont know how to find out what motherboard I have, but it fits the a8-5500 APU. I need one with atleast 4 cores and hopefully over 3.2 GHz, 150-200$ is the price range.

you can downlaod a program called Speccy this will tell you the specs of your pc and hopefully your motherboard.

You can only go with AMD Processors as you have a a8-5500 in this. The best processor for the FM2 Socket is the A10-6800k at a glance but it would be nice to see what motherboard you have

You will need to identify your motherboard, although your CPU is a socket FM2 chip. You will only be able to use another of AMD's APUs in that socket, but there are faster / unlocked ones available. Which board you have determines if it has sufficient capacity for overclocking a faster and higher-wattage chip. The board should have its model number silkscreened on it. If it is a prebuilt system, the vendor specs will tell us, BUT most likely it will have a locked BIOS so overclocking will not be possible.

As previously answered u have to check the highest benchmark cpu for the particular socket of your motherboard.
e.g. For my case i had i3 2120 with GTX 560 graphic card bcoz i used to play DOTA2. But then i started playing BF4, so i had to upgrade. For my board, socket is lga1155. The maximum available processor is i7 3770K for gaming. So i upgraded my cpu as well as my Gpu(GTX 780).
