hi everyone,
i am using intel i3-530 with gigabyte motherboard GA-H55M-D2H. My CPU was running too hot, so i removed the heatsink and applied new thermal paste. Same time i removed small heat sink of PCH chip and applied thermal paste. Since that time i am facing problem. In bios setup cpu temp. showing 38 C and of PCH 39 C without harddrive connected. After some time it reaches to 42 C and 44 C respectively. As PCH reaches to 44 C screen freezes just cpu fan keeps working rest "hang". Heatsink of PCH chip getting hot, i tried applying thermal paste again to PCH chip but no use. PC only runs for 5 min. and then screen freezes.
Please members help me out.

Strange... PCH temp at 44ºC shouldn't cause the system to freeze, right now mine is at 46ºC and I've seen pcs with their PCH hitting high 60ºC and still working (obviously we fixed that by adding some fans since those were high temps)

'screen freezes just cpu fan keeps working rest "hang"'

by "rest hang" you mean all other fans stop working other than the CPU one?

If so then that sounds more like a PSU issue in its 3.3v/5v rail (dunno which exactly feeds the fans), check your voltages at BIOS and see if they're at their respective levels.

If by "rest hang" you mean fans keep working but the system freezes see if the freeze also happens while in BIOS, if it doesn't it could be a software issue more than a hardware issue.

Also make sure that everything is properly connected, check all power cables and re-seat your RAM sticks and GPU, sometimes when working inside the case one could move things slightly out of its place without noticing it.

Finally, more info would be good to know, full pc specs and CPU-GPU temps when system crashes.

Thanks for your reply, first let me tell you after reading your answer i removed RAM stick (using single RAM stick of 2GB) and after cleaning it with eraser fixed it back. well that solve my problem. thanks very much.
I am using only one fan that is of CPU fan, no any other fan. PCH chip only have small heat sink. and not using graphic card only onboard disply.
Well that problem of screen freezing was happening in BIOS also, only CPU fan keeps running, keyboard no responce.
I am very much thankfull for your hepl, Your answer solved my problem. Thanks.
