Either the partition is corrupted or the drive is faulty or both.

Basically stop right there and take it to a repair shop unless you know how to diagnose the fault and use data recovery tools or you will cause more damage and reduce the chances of getting your data back.

Well,

If you had a lot of messages or errors relating to the C: drive then they should not of been ignored.
Because it was warning you to back up the information as the drive was failing.

A bad drive can result in a loss of the drive it`s self or a loss of a Partition of the drive.
So was the drive showing problems, or has it just happened ?
