A few months ago I found the Logitech G700 mouse on sale, decided it felt perfect and met all my other needs and bought 3 of them (for work and 2 computers at home). I was very happy for a few days until the incredibly annoying issues started. The same as everyone else, it seems. I would either like to find a fix (doubtful) or at least get some recommendations for different mice that meet my needs. I'm on a computer at least 10 hours a day and want a mouse that just works.
First, since replacing is more likely, here are my needs:
- Wireless and rechargeable
- Similar size to G700 (this is very important or I cramp up throughout the day)
- At least 5 buttons
- Similar configuration to the G700 as I've been using mice laid out like this for probably 10 years
- Not terribly expensive. I need to buy 3 of these things and anything close to $100 is too much. Unless it's really that good.
And second, here are the issues I've been having with the G700 that, if fixed, would make it the best mouse I've ever used. As best as I can describe them, at least, because most of the time I have no idea WTH is going on with this thing.
- Random profile issues. To simply things I've used the Logitech Gaming Software to delete ALL profiles except for the first on all 3 mice. It will still randomly switch to an unknown profile and be wrong until I do some unknown combination of clicks in LGS.
- Randomly causes some weird issue in Windows 7 that won't let me click. No idea what's going on here, but it just happened again. I can move the cursor around but I can't click on anything. I'm 90% sure the issue is the mouse but I can't confirm. After turning it off and on, plugging it in, unplugging it, opening LGS, etc etc etc it eventually starts working again. Unless I give up and reboot.
- USB profile issues. When I plug it in via usb to charge, it switches to yet another unknown profile. Unplug it and it usually reverts back to what I want.
- ...which is an issue because the battery life is terrible. I have Power Saving mode enabled and polling rate set as low as possible and my battery is dead in a day and a half at work. I put a new 1900mah Eneloop battery in and it didn't help. I could live with this if it weren't for all the other problems but it's still disappointing.
And finally, here is how I use my mouse and other notes:
I'm a software developer with bad aim and don't play many games. I really just need a good wireless mouse that is comfortable to use and has 2 extra buttons for back and forward. I don't play many games. I don't need profiles and I don't need a super high resolution sensor with a high polling rate. I don't have time to be tinkering with it all the time - I want it to just work, maybe after one initial setup. Just a quality wireless mouse that will work consistently and help put off my inevitable CTS surgery.
If anyone can help you'll save me a ton of frustration. This Logitech Gaming Software really makes me want to stab somebody in the eye but I don't know what I can do without it. Thanks in advance!
