Hi there community!

I was wondering after my recent upgrade to a second GTX 670, that my FPS in BF4 was a little low but I'm almost certain the GPU's are NOT the problem as I get 90 FPS average in the campaign and far less in the multiplayer (as low as 45 FPS). Some multiplayer games are renowned to be CPU intensive and I am now thinking is an upgrade to an i7 3770k for 100 Euros (I can get a deal from a friend) considering that I use lots of After Effects, 3DS Max, FRAPS/Dxtory recording etc...? My CPU is around 100% in multiplayer whilst my GPU's are around 50%, does this indicate that I need a more powerful CPU or is BF4 still very unoptimised?

I'm just a little irritated as this computer cost LOTS of money and I don't see much of a performance increase over my last computer setup.

Also last night I tried to update my GPU's to the lastest Nvidia driver R331 (332.21) WHQL and I got this just after downloading it: "Installation cannot continue" "Installation package is corrupt" My friend got that too, and he too is using a single GTX 670.

Thanks people! ;)

Wow, you should be getting higher FPS than that - there was someone on these forums with a similar problem recently, a 3570k and SLI Nvidia cards and getting bad performance. I don't know if his problem was solved though, nor do I know how to fix yours.

But, if you can get a 3770k for 100 euros absolutely do it that's a great deal.

I know BF4 is still having issues so that could be it. Is this a new build? What was your old build like, and did you reuse any HDD's? You could run some AV/Anti Malware scans or maybe wipe your drivers and reinstall. Odd that you're getting the update issues too.

If you happen to get a good 3770k, then yeah, $100 to upgrade I'd say is pretty good. While it won't be a MASSIVE increase at all, everything on the i7 is a liiiiitle bit faster. If you're using recording programs while playing BF4 anyway you'll get grounded down, BF4 MP uses a heck of a lot of CPU power anyway, and so do the recording programs - have you tried Shadowplay? This would take the strain off the CPU a bit and onto the graphics cards.

You'll likely see better results with After Effects, Dxtory and the others you mentioned.

Hi there, thanks for the quick replies
JOOK-D, what sort of FPS should I be getting in multiplayer with my current setup? And yes I am using the same HDD's and SSD's from my old computer. But I never go on dodgy websites such as piratebay, plus I have always had my Norton subscription up-to-date. And just to put it out there I just played on Siege of Shanghai 64 Players with the latest update (downloaded the 332.21 off the Nvidia website just now, instead of GeForce Experience) and when I look into the battle at a distance I get around around 50 FPS, which doesn't seem right. but when I look away I get about 90-100 FPS.
So what do you guys think is my next plan of action?
Thanks! ;)

I wouldn't bother with the 3770K..
That's actually quite a normal min. frame for BF 4 MP...
If you want to use your GPU power for the game....run it at a higher res or increase the Render quality in game.
Getting about the Same min. frames but up the render res to 135% to get the most out of my cards....1440P's next on the list for me.

Find the balance(120% ect)...it's a better more taxing substitute for AA. it isn't going to increase FPS but it will get you the best picture for the amount of GPU power you got...shouldn't lower frames at at all if your bottleneck is at the CPU.
Basically...you don't need 2X 670's for 1080p.

Hi again!
Just played some Siege of Shanghai 64 players and I went to the same point, looking at the same thing and got 43 FPS whilst my friend with an i7 3770k GTX 680 got 64 FPS. Something is DEFO wrong...

Hi there!
Thanks for the response, this guy here upgraded to an i7 3770k and got his GPU to 100%, is this because he is running a single graphics card setup, or could I see this performance increase too?

Notice he went from an I5 2400@3.1 to a I7 3770K@ 4.7
The 3.1 to 4.7 is what made the difference not the fact that it was an I7...
You should try ordering a CPU cooler and overclocking.

We'll is SLI working properly???? (doesn't seem like we've looked at this.....)

What is your motherboard brand and model (far too many folks "SLI" on motherboards with ONLY x4 PCI lanes in the second slot and gain next to Nothing in FPS.....)

Another check point:
- what are your FPS in BF4 with SLI "ON" ?
- what are FPS with SLI "OFF" ?

(NOTE: Your CPU is about as fast as they come, so, an upgrade won't be saving you there....)

The 4GB may be whats doing it(probably more so the 4.7 Ghz)...BF 4 recommends 3gb vram...also read reviews stating that the game actually does go over the 2GB mark quite often.

Hi there!
Welcome to the thread! Yes I made sure that my motherboard was sufficient for SLI. It is an MSI Z77 GD80, which after a TON of research is one of the best motherboards around, except the elitist ROG motherboards which are completely overpriced for the performance gain. I'll go and have a go at turning off SLI.

Master-flaw, I guess it's possible the 4GB makes a difference. I know I saw an article where they tested cards for this and cards like the 670 drop low to 10-20 FPS when using 4Gb of Vram, but I guess its possible it can use 3 to an advantage!

Yea surprised at how low the frames are without an overclock on the 3570K...
but you'ld be better of water cooling that CPU and getting a decent O.C. over the 3770K...

don't have anywhere near the problems you are having with my set-up(below)...and I have it max with 2X AA. Med-PPAA and 135% render res. A lot of AA but I currently play on a 40" T.V, it needs it.
