Physical Memory Dump Blue Screen

Hi during playing games I keep getting a blue screen crash with physical memory dump.

Hd Radeon 7870, i5 3570k, gigabyte z77 d3h and 8gb ram is what I have in the machine.

Any cures for this? Don't get them all the time just every so often and with specific games.

ALso used to get it from waking up computer from sleep.

hey scotty...beam me up :) For your errors start with making sure the motherboard bios is up to date. it may be missing cpu or ram codes for newer ram. in the bios make sure xmp profile is turned on. also check that the ram is seated and in the right slots. use cpu-z and gpu-z make sure both your ram is set right and gpu is read right. make sure your video cable on the gpu and not on the mb video port. if it on the mb video port your using the ip[gpu and under gaming load the cpu can over heat and blue screen. if your using the stock intel heat sink make sure it on tight and check your temps. the intel cpu cooler not made for gaming. (better off using a evo 212 cooler). with your gpu if it an overclock unit use msi afterburner try downclocking it to stock speeds see if it stable. also set a fan speed to keep the card from getting to hot.
when you go to bed boot from a memtest86 boot cd or usb stick run it overnight see if it fails. if memtest passes try running prime95 see if the cpu is the issue or the memory controller in the cpu. the last issue would be a cheap or weak power supply. if you have a volt meter check the 12v leg of the power supply when it under load see if it holding.

I suggest you look at the memory dump and see what error is being reported. There are some free utilities out that that will allow you to read the dump file. That should be your first step before updating the BIOS or anything else since it may point you in the right direction.

Could it be my PSU giving my Graphics card too much voltage or something? I dunno what does this mean?

Or bad drivers or something?

Yes that is more helpful and to me it does look like the the ATI drivers caused the crash. You may want to try uninstalling the video card drivers then then driver sweep and reboot. After the reboot re-install the drivers and see if that makes a difference.

Hi Neieus,

Earlier I wiped the drivers and re installed perfomed a CClean - still crashed .... I will try the driver sweep re install tomorrow.

However I should say that I reseated my GPU there and played a game for 20 mins and it hasn't crashed so far. Heading to bed now will try tomorrow and update.

Thanks again for your help. Will probably go Nvidia GPU next time.

I'm having the same problem, and I also have a Radeon 6950 and 8gb ram. But It doesn't happen when I'm playing anything, it just happens randomly. This is the third time and I'm starting to get worried.

This problem is still happening... I have a question using RAMMon I see that this is the ram I have:

Hi simorizo,

Thanks for helping! In CPU-z it said my dram was 665.4 which is 1/2 of your ram? So would make it 1330 - how do I turn off XMP(in bios?) and what does it do? Could this be causing the crashes?

Not in the house at the minute so can't check my psu and can't remember will reply tomorrow.
