I need some serious help.
According to my speccy analysis, my motherboard BIOS still thinks it's living on the 3rd of November 2011, the date it was made, this problem begun when I installed a new graphics card and power supply.
I cannot access the BIOS, attempts to do so result in a black screen, and to make things worse, I have no control to which screen will come up.
Let me clarify what I mean by that. My machine is an "Advent" company computer, but the motherboard was made by American Megatrends. When I first installed my new card, I saw the American Megatrends screen upon startup for the first time. Startup was slower and when I finally managed to get into windows, the time and date were wrong along with the bottom right icons missing, leaving a gap where they should be.
My issue is, when I start up the computer, I don't know what will come up, sometimes it's American Megatreads, sometimes it's Advent. But listen on.
Another peculiar occurrence is that there only ever seems to be a problem if I am turning on my computer after being left off for a long time, such as overnight. At the moment I need to change the date and time to it's correct state via clicking on the time settings at the bottom right of my desktop and restarting the computer. If I do this, everything returns to normal. But leave it overnight and it's back to square one. The American Megatrends screen only seems to appear when turning it on after a long time, sometimes it's responsive, sometimes it isn't. Any other restart or booting of the computer will result in an un-responsive ADVENT screen that stares you in the face for at least 1 minute before starting Windows. The American Megatrends screen also stares at you for about a minute. Startup is much slower.
This was pre-built PC purchased from PC world, they used a multitude of different parts from different companies, and the case is modified to not allow new parts to be added. For example the motherboard is welded in. I had to pull a few strings to fit in the graphics card, such as removing the metallic side panel. This has not effected the card's performance as it's only there for attachment to the machine, so it's not a problem with the card.
It could be that the power distribution is wrong. The 780ti is extremely power hungry, and maybe the motherboard is struggling to distribute power correctly to all of it's components, hence why it's BIOS messed up? Being an older motherboard and all?
There was a suggestion that people seem to like the most, and that's either replacing the CMOS battery or updating the BIOS.
Because the PC was sold to me by an unreliable company (PC world) and the motherboard was made by American Megatreads, and it is installed into an Advent machine, I have no idea which BIOS to update! I have no idea what to specify. I feel I'd only mess it all up if I tried to update the BIOS myself.
What do you think I should do next, taking this information into consideration?
