Creating a custom background in Adobe Photoshop

How can I create an awesome background by combining two or more images? It is hard for me to describe, but I've seen designers on You Tube combine multiple images by messing with the settings and the end result looks like a brand new product. I want to say the feature is "merge" but im not 100% sure on it.

It's either an layer overlay or a good photo manipulation. But i think you mean the latter. It's manually done using various photoshop tools.

Thanks for the reply Ken! I did a little research of my own and found out that the "tool" or "function" I was looking for was the blend modes.

I'm glad you found the answer you were seeking. I'll have to experiment with the blend modes. After you post I played with adding a layer mask but have not tried any of the blend modes. Thank you for posting what you found.
