Hi,

I've been having a problem with my secondary HDD (WD10EZEX) disappearing under load (decompressing a zip onto it in one instance and downloading from the internet to it on another.) It reappears on its own sometimes and other times only after restarting. I've tried different SATA cables and different SATA ports on my motherboard and I have up to date drivers.

I'm wondering if anyone knows if my power supply is too small for my rig and if that could be the root of my problem?

Specs:
Power Supply:
Corsair CX430 430W

MOBO:
Intel DZ77BH-55K

CPU:
Intel i5-3470 Ivy Bridge
W/ Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO Fan.

RAM:
12GB G.SKILL Ripjaws DDR3 1600

SSD:
Corsair Force GT 90GB

HDD:
WD 1TB (WD10EZEX)
Samsung 640GB (HD642JJ)

Video Card:
GeForce GT 430 (Fermi)

Peripherals:
ASUS Black Blu-Ray Burner
RNX-N150PCe Card.

OS:

WIndows 8.1 Pro x64

Solution
You could try to zero-fill your drive. This will hopefully retire any "pending" sectors, but new defects will probably develop over time. I wouldn't trust that drive with my data.

Short drive self test passed but in my smart data report I'm getting a caution notification. "Reallocated Sectors Count: Current 186, Worst 186, Threshold 140.

Is there any way to mend this? Or am I better off trying to get a replacement?
