Hi all,

I bought a Kingston ValueRAM 4GB DDR3 1333MHz PC3-10600 CL9 to upgrade from my other 4gb ram, and the specifications are the same. But I noticed that the models are different, my old one is a KVR1333D3N9/4G and the new one a KVR13N9S8/4, are they compatible? the new one doesn't have those black chips on the back so they're different for sure.

Thanks for the help and excuse my english.

I'm waiting for a new motherboard to arrive, I will like to know it before hand so I can send it back to the store.

Hello, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support and would like to offer our assistance. Both modules should be able to work together just not with Dual Channel performance. Part number KVR13N9S8/4 is a Single Rank module basically uses a larger capacity chips and has a single 64 bit memory path. If the motherboard your getting is compatble with standard 8GB modules it should not have a problem with the single rank 4GB module. To double check compatibility you can always use our Memory Search on our website to see what is listed for your Motherboard. Or you can give us a call and we can advise. Please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you. Please be sure to have the part in question on hand when you call.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

Thanks for your assistance, I already installed the rams and everythings is working perfectly on a asus m5a97 evo r2.0 motherboard.

But a bit of a noob question, I didn't understand the part about dual channel, does it means I'm using only one channel and the performance is not as good as it would with the same two rams? Can I actually notice the difference at all?

Can take a look with CPU-Z and see, look in the memory tab, and will tell if in single or dual, will also show true freq (half of effective freq) and the timings they are running at

Yes, they are indeed on single channel, is there any real difference in performance between the two? Especially in games, can I notice the difference at all?

Dual channel will provide a performance boost of up to 10-15%, all really depends on what you do if you can tell a difference (and you'd have to be able to run them dual to see) do you have them in slots 1-3 or 2-4, which does your manual recommend?

Damn I feel like an idiot, I had the two memorys in slots 1-2 instead of 1-3 (different colors) now I have them in dual channel mode.

This shows how much of a newbie I am, lol.

Thanks Tradesman1!
