Using over the original amount of RAM

I have a standard Inspiron 531 running Win 8 pro 64 Bit. The limit of RAM is 4 Gig originally, when it had a 32 Bit OS.
It would be interesting to know if you can add more than 4 Gig of RAM, using the 64 bit OS in this Computer.

Yes, with a 64 bit Operating System, the computer will be able to address up to the maximum amount that the hardware supports. More than likely 32GB.

Nope. That particular DDR2 motherboard has a maximum of 4x1 GB for a total of 4GB.

Oops, I missed that. I didn't even look up the hardware since it was running Win 8. My mistake.

As Eximo mentioned, that is the max your motherboard will support. (4GB)
