Solution
If the same problems remain after reinstalling Windows it's likely to be a hardware issue.
Start by testing the hard drive and then the RAM if the hard drive passes the test.

To test the hard drive you will need to boot from a CD containing the drive maker's diagnostic software for DOS because you can't properly test the Windows boot drive with Windows-based software. The download links are here:
http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287

The download is usually in the form of a CD Image (an ISO file). Create the CD from this using IMGBurn:

Then boot your Acer from that CD to test the hard drive. use the long/extended test.

To test the RAM modules, download the...

To test the RAM modules, download the Memtest86 ISO CD Image from here:
http://www.memtest.org/

Again, create a CD from that file using IMGBurn, then boot your Acer from it.
Memtest86 will start automatically and continues to run until you press the ESC key.
Any RAM errors will usually be reported within the first four passes so no need to run it any longer than that.
Test each RAM module separately so you know which ones (if any) are faulty. You can do that by having only one module installed at a time and testing each until you've tested them all.
