I don't see the error message and neither the specs of your system.
An over-clocked system should not be a hurdle when upgrading the OS.

I could not see the error message.

In any case there are two versions of windows 8, one is the upgrade version, that is launched through the current windows os version you are running ie: windows 7.

And the other is a boot able disk version, that has to be run by setting the cd or dvd drive in the bios to the first boot able device in the boot order section.

If the motherboard you have has a secure boot option in the bios it may also be the cause.
It may need to be enabled or disabled.

Until I see an error message, I can only say that there can be a few reasons why your unit is throwing you an error message.

1. The hard drive could be failing, or a sector in the hard drive is being troublesome.
2. Your disk is scratched, or your CD drive is having trouble reading data off the Win8 disk. Try installing via a flash drive.

Sweet. Come back and let me know if you get the same error message. If you get the same message, then try installing Windows 8.1 via a flash drive. If you do not know how to get Windows on a flash drive, you will have to research a bit. You can always private message me as well for further assistance if we have to go down that route.

What's really strange is how some systems are able to to upgrade the OS even with an OC but I guess it depends on how extreme the OC is!

I managed to upgrade to 8.1 and was overclocked by a few GHZ but I guess the rule of thumb is to default the system, upgrade the OS and then once stable go back to OC.
