I am looking to upgrade my - Dual 1GB GDDR5 ATI Radeon™ HD 5870 as both have puttered out.

I am big into gaming and am a graphic designer.
My budget is around $600

i think a 780 will be good for you. It offers great in game performance and doesnt generate a lot of heat. also the gk 110 processor used will work nicely (although not as well as a quadro) for creative work. (cuda etc. really benefits heavily threaded workloads)

I use Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign CS 6, also After Effects. I play a lot of Battlefield 4 and similar games. Hope that answers your question

yes, if you use the creative suite the best thing would be a 290x, since opencl has better cs compatibility than cuda, which only works for some of the applications.. just make sure to get one with an aftermarket heatsink (same goes for the 290/280x). with the stock one it becomes so loud that its impossible to work and it still runs way too hot for my taste. i dont know what the price is where you live, since its heavily dependant on how many were bought for crypto minig, but in germany its a little over 500 bucks.
