Okay, so I bought a new monitor that is 1920x1080 Full HD 144hz refresh rate. and 1ms response time.

I have a 7850 hd and catalyst control center.

When I open catalyst control center to adjust the settings for my monitor, it says its in 1080p @ 60hz. So I go down to settings to adjust it and the desktop resolution ( currently there is a black border around my screen ) only goes up to 1650x1050. There is no option to set it at 1920x1080. Also, it only lets you select up to 75hz refresh rate. Is there something I am doing wrong?

Thanks!

Solution

HDMI is the connection of choice for TV's because it also carries sound, and TV's don't use higher than 60hz.

Dual Link DVI-D supports higher refresh rates.

So I need to use an HDMI and the DVI? Right now I am only using HDMI. I figured out how to adjust the screen size with the GPU scaling option in AMD catalyst control center, so that's fixed. I am still unclear on how to set it to 144hz refresh rate....or will it automatically set it the 144hz?

I understand now! Thanks, the monitor came with a dual link dvi so I'll play with it.
Off topic here, I have a 120hz rr tv hooked up with hdmi to my ps3. Am I only seeing 60hz rr on my tv when gaming?

Thanks all, ill hook up the DVI cable and let you know

Due to TV's using HDMI, they do not support 120hz gaming. They can't accept 120 FPS of input. They aren't true 120hz devices. What they do it take 24-60hz of input, and make up additional frames and place them in between the real frames, or simply repeat frames.

Try restart are your PC or look in windows updates and see if there is a driver update for your monitor if not google your monitor and look for driver for that. The it should work

He got it working already. He was just using the incorrect connection type.
