I know this is probably a nooby question but how do I update my motherboard drivers, I need to update them as I have just built my first Computer, alls going well, apart from the fact that my gfx card is running in PCIe 2.0 instead of 3.0, and I am hoping that updating the motherboard drivers will fix this issue, its a gtx660, and its in the proper slot, PCIe x 16 3.0 labeled on the motherboard, but for some reason GPU-Z says it is running in the PCIe x 16 slot 2.0, even though my motherboard supports PCIe 3.0, which is the ASUS P8Z77-V PRO, I have an Intel i7-2600 in there, I assume it supports 3.0, but correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks,

Matty

I have looked on the website, by the looks of things you have to install all types of drivers separately, and my BIOS update is a .CAP file, never heard of that, or have any clue what to do with it.

Your CPU doesn't support PCIe 3.0. You need an Ivy Bridge (iX-3XXX) or better to use PCIe 3.0.

I wouldn't worry about it though. A GTX 660 isn't going to saturate a x16 slot. You could run it in crossfire x8/x8 and still be fine.

Thank you sir, you were very helpful, or I am an idiot for not thinking about the disc that came with the motherboard.

I don't have a solution but many questions. I have three devices which I have issues with but will begin to ask (if convenient for you) about the one relative to this post first. If you are available, pcgod, we can move on from there. I have a HP all in one pavilion and the Geek Squak put in two (2) new motherboards - supposedly. One I do believe was replaced - elaboration if you want. Anyway, after the first, the pc went along fine for a while then the fan went haywire and eventually wore out. I recently reset refreshed the PC and reinstalled everything to find the FAN is now on constantly. I'm supposing it is something to do with the chipset, BIOS (not touching that) or the heatsink which I also know nothing about. I'd had experience with upgrading my son's laptop and got the wrong chipset and the fan was also on constantly and on HIGH until I did change and install a correct driver - to which the fan began to operate perfectly, shutting off and on when necessary. So, I downloaded "unknown device identifier" and the MB isn't giving me much other than: PNP0C01. I used to have an app which told what temperature it was and much more but can't remember the name. Similar to CPUID but not the same. Can you give me a moment of your expertise and send me a link to research? Or do you know? Sure appreciate anything from anyone. Good wishes, smiles 4 miles, v
