I Have a AMD FX-6300 Overclocked to 4 GHz
When on windows 7 main screen I get a CPU temp of 40-50C. When playing Far Cry3 or other games I get 55-70C
This seems a bit hot to me. Are these temps normal?

they are not dangerously high. but a little warmer then usual for idle. is it warm in your house. and do you have proper cooling for your pc?

also you overclocked so you should expect warmer temps. are you using an aftermarket cpu cooler? its highly recommended when overclocking

yea i was just doing a little research and most people are saying 65 to 70 is ok for what you have. but dont recommend going much hotter then that.

http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html hw monitor
http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/ real temp

it wouldnt hurt to try another program and compare the results. just remember not to run more then one monitoring program at a time. it can affect the results.

Hardware Monitor says my CPU is 22C-40C Average: 30's. Should I trust this more?

that seems alot more reasonable if your were idle or just messing around online.

No not really I trust BIOS the best, then use Core temp which I can set offset in according to BIOS. TX3 is just an average cooler so your temps are no unbelievable.

Below 80c is good, below 70c is preferred. 85c will work, but 90c is about the max.
