so yesterday I was on my computer doing my homework and all of a sudden it froze so I waited a minute and after like 20 minutes I rebooted it and it took a while to start up and when it got to the windows screen, then it went to black screen with a lot of words and at the bottom it said operating system not found. What should I cant afford expensive parts I need it for school???...

The hard drive may have failed so I trust you have kept all your data backed up to another drive?.

To confirm or disprove hard drive failure, you can test it with the drive maker's diagnostic software for DOS which loads from a bootable CD which you have to make. The download links are here:
http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287

The download is usually an ISO file (CD Image). use IMGBURN to create the CD from that file:

Then boot your faulty PC from that CD & the testing software will appear on the screen.

If the drive is Seagate brand, the download link for SeaTools for DOS CD version is here:
