Hi all,

I have an issue and thought someone in here might have an idea of what it might be.

Basicly my screen randomly goes black " the monitor stays on and doesn't say no signal " but the screen goes black for roughly 5 - 10 seconds. I recently changed my gfx card as I thought it was my aging 5870 that was causing the issue but turns out it wasn't as it now does it on my 280x :(

I have tried a different monitor and obviously a different gfx card, what else could it be I am considering the psu which i plan to change asap anyway as its an ocz 500w corexstream and isnt really upto powering a 280x but its not old roughly a year and should power my 5870 fine.

my 5870 is now in a different pc which hasn't had any of the black screen issues i had been experiencing so its obviously something in my system thats causing it.

Could it be the power supply and if so would it be dangerous to continue using it?

Another thing that makes me think it is more than likely the power supply is since installing the 280x I get a coil whine noise through my headset and even through my microphine, and the higher the fps i get in certain games the higher the whine gets.

I had thought about getting a ocz zs750 or a cx600 money is a bit tight at the moment due to xmas lol, so I really can't afford a really expensive psu, I like the reviews the xfx 650w have had and apparently they are made by seasonic so I may go for that if I can get it at the right price.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply ;)

I was going to try that but unfortunately the other pc has a 580watt hiper supply that apparently puts out less watts than my ocz 500w one lol :(

Perhaps I will try it how about I just use the other psu to power the gfx card and see if that helps?
