I've just built a new PC (specs below for reference) and all has been going well up until this evening.
Basically what I've been doing is getting the computer all up-to date with various windows updates, drivers and so on; everything has been fine however I had one small problem and that was that windows won't detect my USB MIDI keyboard, despite trying every USB port on the PC, both USB2 and USB3.
To try and remedy this I updated the chipset drivers, and once the PC had rebooted the mouse and keyboard didn't work at all. I simply couldn't get past the logon screen, except for one fluke when I did log on, only for the mouse & keyboard to stop again. To get back to where I was I had to boot in safe mode and roll back the changes; but I'm back to square 1 now with a midi keyboard that doesn't work; pretty useless given that I built this PC for making music & 3D work.
It is worth mentioning that the one time I did manage to get past the logon screen, the midi keyboard was recognised by windows; though I couldn't do anything with it because the mouse & keyboard didn't work.
Also there are a few other devices not recognised in the device manager (2x Ethernet controller & SM Bus Controller), all of which I assume are to do with the chipset driver in some way or another. I believe I have exhausted all the logical routes - and it's certainly not something as mundane as the batteries in the mouse & keyboard running out; i'm using them now!

960GB Crucial M500 2.5" SATA III
ASRock Z87 Extreme6, Intel Z87
650W Akasa Cobra, Hybrid Modular
Intel Xeon E3-1270 v3, S 1150, Haswell
2 x 1TB Seagate ST1000DX001 SSHD
Running Windows 7 (fully up to date) 64Bit SP1.
I hope I've given enough info for some of you to have a stab at a few ideas. Any help would be much appreciated.
