Hey guys. Built a PC a while back for my girlfriend for some light to medium gaming and got her an a8-5600k. Will be upgrading her to an a10 soon and want to up her graphics capability while I'm at it (wanted to go to kaveri but only got her an FM2 Main board)
According to AMD the best card I can use with her APU is a HD 6670 which is pretty low end. I had read that I shouldn't go for a gddr5 version of it and get a ddr3 version since the APU is using ddr3. I had read that some people were running much higher end cards like 7790's and R9 cards and I'm curious what would be the most beneficial? performance wise and financial wise.

What is the general consensus on running a dual card with an APU?

So I should have put money towards a CPU instead of an APU and bought a $100 GPU to go with it. That would have given better performance than trying to crossfire with an APU. Is that kind of what I'm hearing?

Well there's no going to a CPU at this point. So attempting to crossfire a 6670 with the APU will not benefit me very much at this point, and it would be more performance beneficial to just buy her a 7770 or something better than trying to crossfire with the APU. Is that correct?

If you're going to get a new CPU and GPU, don't get the A10, get the 760K Richland (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113348). The 760k is only $90 compared to $140 for the A10 (the A10 is essentially a 750k with an added lowend graphics chip), then use the extra $50 on a good graphics card the Sapphire R7 260X is only $140 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202081), or if you can go higher the Sapphire R9 270 is $190 and includes a free copy of Battlefield 4, essentially making the card $130. I reccommend the R series because they support Mantle, which (if it's as good as they say) will provide a big graphics boost over the HD 7xxx cards. Battlefield 4 will support Mantle in the next month or so, which makes it worth the money right there so even if she doesn't like BF4 maybe you could sneak some time playing it while she's not using the compy.

I upgraded my Old hd 5770 GPU to a little newer card and gave her the 5770 and just turned off integrated graphics. I'll be getting her a 6770 for crossfire off amazon soon and I'll upgrade her to a AM3+ socket motherboard and cpu later on because an APU seems totally pointless in a full size case. The Xfired cards will do MORE than enough. The one already can max out her settings just about. I'll use this APU on an HTPC sometime in the near future and figure out what to do with this board. Might sell it to a friend for cheap. APU's have their place, and that is not in a full size ATX Case, especially when the board has 2 pcie x16 slots...

I have a good PC myself that'll run BF4 pretty well. She doesn't have any games that support mantle anyways. Appreciate the insight though.
