System won't stay powered up. Replaced ps, MLB swapped out memory, disconnected drives, cleared CMOS and when system starts up, can enter setup before system powers down again. Only thing I haven't replaced is CPU.

It might be a heating issue. Try cleaning te old paste, reapply new one and reinstall the heatsink.

It could be the CPU then.

Isn't it under warranty? Have you OC-ed it?

Built this system from scratch year or so, long past Frys warranty, but will dig out paperwork just in case it's a year warranty. Oh well

And yes I had pushed it 'a little'... But since I can't get into CMOS to redo it all, will removing the battery for a while reset it all back to default? At this point am removing all fans but collet on CPU to see if there's a short.

You can try removing the CMOS battery for a minute (power cord unplugged). It would reset the BIOS, yes.

Is it only coming on for a few seconds or whatever? Since you say you've replaced most all, might be something with a mobo short, might try building on a bench, have a guide that might help here:

Grrrrrr. Ok cleared CMOS, disconnected all fans except one on CPU cooler, replaced CPU with known good one from friends unit, disconnected all drives, voted to CMOS and set default, rebooted to boot screen waited and about 45 secs till system shut down. MLB shorting out in case?

Thanks for the link. Went through everything one at time with MLB out of case. Booting up and even running windows repair. Will see how long it runs. So now, how do you insulate MLB from case shorting it out?

That is what the case to MB stand-offs are for.

Standoffs have been installed since the get go. Will check the screws for CPU cooler and see if going through and touching back or something

and make sure the ONLY standoffs are those that line up with the mounting holes in the mobo

Tried everything, well almost, and still got shutdown. Desperate, I took off the corsair chip cooler (one that has a water cooled radiator looking component) and put on a regular heat dispenser type. No issues. Put MLB back into case, no issues. Just out of curiosity, put back the 8x CPU and system ran fine. Figures was the least expensive component that caused it (after buying everything else-thank god didn't buy new CPU yet). Thanks guys for all the help and advice!
