Hello, I have this crazy idea that I can't shake. I am thinking about building one machine with multiple NICs running multiple virtual operating systems in order to have different servers/clients running on one machine for a good at home networking/routing/server lab. Any input would be great.. I can't find anyone who has done this.

Multiple physical NICs are not required. Each VM will have its own virtual NIC, and talk to the outside via the regular single physical NIC.

I do this all the time.

I'm aware of those abilities. The problem I see with that is I want to take it a step further and actually do realistic labs. I planned on incorporating managed switches and routers as well. And I'm not sure how blocking ports and different routing configs will work with a virtual NIC configuration.
