Running 3D games causes computer to crash. Radeon R9 270X to blame?

I've recently discovered that attempting to run any program with 3D graphics will cause my computer to freeze and my display monitors to cease functioning properly. I am able to access every other type of program and can even navigate 2D menus in the 3D games I have tested the situation with. In addition, 2D games such as Rayman Origins work fine. I'd just like to get a second opinion before I RMA my R9 290X, could there be anything else that might be causing this problem?
