I recently purchased a new Zorac GTX 650 ti brand new. I was playing starcraft II for around 2 hours before i noticed a bad smell coming from the PC, so after. I was done playing i took it apart and it was the graphica card that the smell was coming from. Is it normal for new graphics cards to smell odd while under losd for the first time?

Solution
Good to hear. Could have just been a product they use on the heatsink or something. I never had that happen to any of my GPU's though. All I had was new plastic smell flowing through mine.

I can't really describe the smell, but there was a faint hint of electrical fire sort of smell. It wasn't any cables, the card looks fine. My card is this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?gclid=CM6XveCM8LsCFcN_Qgod9CoAuQ&Item=N82E16814500286&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-_-pla-_-Desktop+Graphics+Cards-_-N82E16814500286&ef_id=UsjmRwAAAA1GEgbd:20140109025926:s

It could just be the smell of the new card getting warm, but I would keep checking around because a fire isn't fun to deal with. Can you confirm the smell is only from the GPU? Have you checked the wall socket?

Lastly, monitor the temps in your GPU with GPU-Z.

Yes that is my card, and yes it is the GPU. The smell went away after a while. It wasn't over heating, It was in the 40s (c) and everything was working properly. I believe it may have been because it was under load for the first time.
