Hello, i am not sure how to explain this. I have asus x401a. The hardware was out so i went to Fry's (a place where they fix computer) and they replaced a new HDD. They said that i will have to order a recovery cd from ASUS store and i scoffed to myself, thinking that i can just install and recover on my own without the cd. I thought wrong. I ordered Asus RdDV recovery SOP which has two cd. For a while, i keep on getting this message, "Reboot and elect proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a kay. I got the CD today. (my laptop does not have a cd drive so i used another computer's pc and connected it to the laptop) and i put the cd there, nothing wrongs. I tried to add new boot option on the BIOS but there are not any option where i can add boot option. I am furious because i have spent a lot of money on this and got no result. CAn you tell me which part i should enable or disable on bios and how i can find the option of adding new boot. I only see under the boot tab- "Boot option #11, PO:hitachi ht44454) and hard drive bbs priorities, delete boot option. I have seen on the internet that the add boot option will be there but not on mine. Can anyone help?

Thank you

They should have setup or install files in them but you need to use a thumb drive, external hard drive, or burn those files to CD/DVD and then run them on the laptop. They might be zip files in which will will be a Install.exe or Setup.exe in them.
You can not "Add" a boot option. The PC know what is connected at start up and what it can use to boot from.

The question is how did you connect the Optical Drive from the other PC to your laptop? Sounds like it wasn't setup right and the laptop isn't seeing it.

im not sure how to explain but i hook up a line from the pc to my laptop and the screen will show up on the computer screen, but not on my laptop, you know? From there, i thought that i could put the cd in and get it booted using that method

All you did was hook up an external monitor which does nothing. You can just "Hook" Two PC's together like that.

1) You either need to buy an external DVD Drive for it which is nice because you can just take it with you or

2) You need by a SATA/ATA to USB adapter. Then plug the DVD rom in the PC into what ever port it is (IDE or SATA) Make sure the DVD has power. I like to just plug it into the USB adapter and turn the PC it self on, and then plug in the USB to the laptop and then start up the laptop.

Those are the only two ways you will get it to work.

Hello. i hope you are able to help out with this as well, i bought the external cd drive and everything seems to work. The problem is that it won't connect to the internet, "install a drier for your network adapter, Window did not detect a properly installed network adapter. if you have a network adapter, you will need to re-install the driver."....

Eh. help me out here?

On a PC that has internet go here

https://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/X401A/#support

Click on Drivers and Tools there in the middle. Then select the OS that is now on the laptop. Once you do that it will have a list of items. Go down to wireless and download the first two. They are different wireless drivers. Install one if it works great if not try the other.

Once that is connected to the internet go back there on the laptop and download these:

Chipset, Audio (Just First), Lan, VGA (Just first one), Touchpad (Download first three here. Not sure which one you have), USB, and BlueTooth (Again only first two here)

and install those to make sure all the needed drivers are installed. Then once that is all done go to the Control Panel and then go to System. Then click on Device Manager on the upper left. And then list anything that is either "Unknown Hardware" or with a yellow ! Next to it. If there is nothing then your all good to go!
