How good is VLC

Hey everybody, getting tired of Itunes and want to switch over. All of my audiophile buddies praise on how VLC is "THE BEST AUDIO/MULTIMEDIA PLAYER". Is it really what people say it is like or is it just overrated. Also, what audio/multimedia player would you suggest if you do not perfer VLC?

It used to be the best for a very long time. Well coded, stable and regular updates.
But now VLC is just freeriding on its success from a few years ago.

A few others have passed it in my opinion.

SPlayer is my personal favourate now.

I use VLC player but frankly have only tried it, powerdvd, and windows media player. If there is something better than VLC I would like to know.

You show a valid point and I think I'll take your word for it. Most audio/multimedia players are free so why not try them all out?
