I recently decided to try and download a large game file and my internet speed is not very fast. I have to leave my computer on overnight and through the day to download this file but whenever I wake up my computer is always asleep. I already have my settings turned to:

Turn off the display: Never
Put the computer to sleep: Never

This is a desktop not a laptop and it is very high end I just cannot solve this on my own.
Thanks,
Ray

If you're not really bothered about the 'Why" of it, and just want the problem to go away, here's a work-around:
Use MouseJiggler. It's a free software that keeps making tiny little mouse movements, tricking the computer into thinking the user is still active.
It's safe (that's my personal opinion anyway, based on about a year's experience) and lightweight.

Or you could also leave a movie running on full screen, or have up any full screen application really, like a game or some software, because the Windows OS is, by default, set to never sleep if the whole screen is actively occupied by something. The movie or game doesn't even have to be running. This should work even if it's paused.

If you do want to get into the "Why", we can look into that too.

YEAH, NO, ah heck OFF, JOHNBL, 'BEST SOLUTION' IS MINE, I TELL YOU, MINE! YOU'RE TOO LATE!

Ahem.

Anyway. Yes, this method should also work, and probably goes into the 'Why" of this question; why the system is going to sleep at all.

P.S.: I'm not actually serious, johnbl. Good work.
(Not. *blows rapberry*)

theres an option that the windows requires to ask you a password when you turn it on from sleep mode
you can find that option in power supply options in your control panel theres an option on the left "require password when turned on from sleep mode" switch it off and it will boot up when you will try to turn it on from sleep mode the next time you try

from my own expirence i had the same issue

I have tried MouseJiggler (and every other suggested solution to this issue on the Internet and many different forums) and it does not work on my 8.1 64-bit Pro system. In fact, the problem has worsened since the maintenance download just last week. I have tried the network adapter change referenced below, I have tried several of the registry/display-related suggestions on the Internet to no avail. I am a Windows website and application developer (20+ years) so I'm no newbie. This problem is really starting to annoy. If anyone has any new suggestions, I would be happy to try them.

Just as a note on MouseJiggler, I started it up this morning, 15 minutes later after no activity all my screens are black. For all I know, they could have gone black a minute after I started MouseJiggler up.

I recently noticed that my Windows 8.1 laptop was going into a sleep state sometime in the early hours. All power settings were Sleep=Never when on A/C. I happen to check the Advanced Power Options and noticed that Sleep/Hibernate After was set to 720 minutes but only for the Balanced power profile. All other power profiles were set to Never. I changed the Balanced power profile and will know tomorrow if it worked. I have no idea what changed the setting - possibly one of the numerous applications that I have been installing as I built a new laptop.

Go into your power settings and then into the advanced settings. Expand under "Sleep" and then under "Hibernate". Under the plugged in option, set the time to zero minutes. Then when you save the settings the zero will change to "Never".

Apparently, I've been beaten to the punch. Anyway, like the above two said, perhaps it's not simply your monitor turning off, maybe it's your entire system going into hibernation.

If you want to set the "Hibernate after" option to something higher, follow their advice Here's how to disable the feature altogether.

Most windows 8.1 users experience the problem of the screen not waking up when on sleep mode, lights are still blinking, pressing buttons wouldn't turn on the screen, so I may have came up with a solution. The problem is the display screen not turning on.
1. go to control panel
2. go to power options
3. look on the left hand column of the power options and select "choose when to turn off the display" (appears to have the first small symbol of a blue screen and a clock.)
4. change the first option on both 'battery' and 'plugged' in to never.
5. save changes and it should make your life easier.

I have done these things, and even went so far as to create My Custom Power Plan, where no password is required on startup, W8.1 sleeps NEVER, etc., etc., but no joy. I have also installed MouseJiggler 1.5, but I will have to wait until tomorrow morning to see if that worked. Another thought that I've had was maybe the Themes I've downloaded, which do not include a screensaver, are causing it to sleep; I'll try assigning one to each of them, and see if that helps. BTW - it still requires a password on wakeup :-(
