If you buy an Intel CPU in a box instead of a tray, do they stick the fan on it for you, or does it come loose? I ordered a watercooling solution and a'boxed' CPU, and now I worry that the first thing I got to do is scrape off old thermal paste.. (i can still modify the order right now)

Last I knew the fans just come sitting in the box loose, unless Intel has gotten sneaky on us.

Thanks. I haven't build a new pc since 2003, so I appreciate the reassurance.

The cpu comes clean. The heatsink has thermal paste already spread on in a perfect layer.
Very handy for selling the heatsink+fan actually- no paste required.

Interesting. Honestly, the only reason I even bought the boxed one was that I could get a cheaper deal on one than without the HSF. But now I'm thinking it's nice to have a spare part.

If you lived in london (which i doubt because of post time in the uk) I would give you a fiver for the spare as
i got a barely used haswell 4430 for £99 and I dont have a cooler..

Unfortunately I live in the US, otherwise I would take you up on the offer.
