Hi guys,
I have put together a new system, using some old parts from my previous build, primarily in order to play Counter-Strike:Global Offensive with a better frame rate.
My previous build was:
i3-2120
Asus P8H61-M LE
8GB Gskill DDR3 1333mhz
ASUS HD6850
WD Caviar Green 500GB
550W antec earthwatts (I think)
I was initially planning a cheap upgrade of just an i5-3570K, however I somehow managed to bend a couple of pins on my motherboard.
I then purchased a Gigabyte z77 HD3, Coolermaster 750W psu and a new case.
CSGO runs very well on this with 130-300fps however I am getting intermittent stutter, where the whole game will freeze for maybe half a second before returning to normal. This is usually but not always accompanied by various console errors in cs:go - which is a problem with the game but from what I have read typically only causes stuttering for lower spec computers.
I have also since purchased a new SSD drive as I thought the slow 5400rpm HDD may have been causing some of this, but since installing CS:GO on the SSD the stutter remains.
I have updated all drivers I can think of.
I probably put more thermal paste on the chip than I should have when installing. Now I am wondering if this could be causing this stutter...
I have the CPU at stock currently, however if I try and overclock the cpu CS:GO will crash to desktop with an error "Cannot load game (app already running).
I would really appreciate / be eternally grateful for suggestions which lead to a fix.
Today I ran prime95 for 8 hours and the max cpu temp 69c. It is also quite warm where I am with ambient temp around 30c+
My next step will be to reapply thermal paste and reseat the HSF which is a hyper 212 evo.
BTW: ram and the video card (tried to remove some dust, but not in great condition - though temps don't go above 70 under load) are getting older I suppose - perhaps one of these could be worth considering?
Please help !
