alkaline808 :
im considering building a new computer soon and im looking to choose a new psu, when i built my last one it was a little over 4 years ago and ultra had lifetimer warranties so thats what i bought. It seems now that they only have 3 year warranties. so what im wondering is are they still very high quality and worth buying, should i choose a different company? also are there any with lifetime warranties?
Hi - I'm not sure ultra ever had high quality PSU's, but I agree that you should seek a unit with at least a 5yr warranty,
and if can step up to a prof level PSU, you'll get gold (or platinum) efficiency and a 7yr warranty.
Ultra is a house brand (Tigerdirect I think), most of their PSU's are mfg by Andyson, a low quality OEM.
There are exceptions, but generally the purpose of house brands is to hit an attractive price point while providing
a higher profit (than a comparable name brand) margin for the seller. When this is the case, the consumer does not benefit.
Once you have an idea of what your CPU & GPU are going to be in your new system, please post here along
with a budget for a PSU, and we can advise appropriately.
