So these are the specs for my system:
CPU: AMD FX - 8120 eight core processer.
MB: AMD corporation 970A-D3
GPU: GTX 550ti
PSU: 500W Enermax Tomahawk EKT500AWT
RAM: DDR3 16gb (not sure of the make).

What i'm looking to pick up.
gpu: GTX 760 or maybe a gtx 660ti
case: CoolerMaster Scout 2 N2

I am also looking to pick these up and a new heat sink/ fan for the cpu something efficient and cheap. I am hoping my motherboard, cpu and psu are capable enough to run these upgrades until I can afford to upgrade them in future.

I am not looking at this being a system to max out graphics and fps just something to run games coming out smoothly on about medium.

I would upgrade your psu, it'd be the most beneficial in the future. But if you want an immediate upgrade for a performance boost, i'd look into upgrading your CPU and maybe motherboard.

Pick up the GTX760. And, as Calnin suggested above, upgrade the PSU also to at least Corsair CX750.
For CPU Cooler, you can buy, Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO.

Hi - 1st you do not need to upgrade your PSU now. Your 500w Enermax has 36 +12v amps available, a system with a gtx760 requires 30 +12v amps. If you intend to OC the GPU & CPU then I suggest you upgrade.

You will see the most immediate benefit by upgrading your GPU, and get the strongest GPU you can afford that
your PSU will support (gtx760) and will fit in your case, which shouldn't be an issue with a gtx760.

Thanks guys for all the feedback. I do intend to upgrade all the components eventually but right now i'm mostly trying to pick up the gpu and some cooling assistance. So I may pick up the gtx 760, a cpu fan and a case. Once I save up a bit more I will change over the motherboard, cpu and upgrade the power supply.
