Hey, I have recently put together a new system with the following components.

1 x AMD FX-4300 4 Core CPU
1 x 500W PSU (forgot what one it came with the case)
2 x 4GB 1333mhz DDR3 RAM
1 x Sapphire Radeon 7770 2GB GDDR5
1 x Seagate Barracuda 1TB Hard Drive
1 x ASUS M5A78L-M LX V2 Motherboard.

Currently, when I turn on the system, the PC is physically on (you can see as the fans are spinning and the motherboard light is on). However, the monitor does not display anything as "there is no signal". Now this is true as the GPU doesn't appear to be on as its fans aren't spinning, however when I tried booting the computer with a 6670 GPU (note how this GPU doesn't require a 6 pin power connector) the fans worked but the monitor still didn't display anything due to "no signal". With this said, I have tested my monitor with another PC and it DOES work, have replaced my VGA cable, but every time I turn on the system, I encounter the problem.

TLDR;
Newly built computer doesnt turn on. Not the monitor or the cables fault, but the mobo seems fine cause when I use a GPU that doesn't need a 6 pin power connector it works, but when I use a GPU that does require one, it doesnt work. All proposed resolutions encounter the same problem; "No signal" detected from a working monitor.

EDIT:
To simplify

New System Build w/ Desired GPU (7770) = Monitor wont display (No signal). GPU fans not spinning.
New System Build w/ 6670 GPU = Monitor wont display (No signal). GPU fans are spinning.
New System Build w/ GPU = Monitor wont display (No signal).
Monitor tested on another system and works.
2 VGA cables have been used.

Could anyone assist me with this problem?
All help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Solution
check that the mb sitting on the brass standoffs and not shorted to the mb tray. on the outside edge of the mb is a eight pin power connector make sure that plugged in.

Your GPU might be defective. However, the PSU could be the cause as well. Maybe the 12V line you use to power your GPU is dead. Get a voltage probe and check voltages when the system is powered on.

Strip your system of any unneeded parts and try to boot again, which means that only PSU, mainboard, CPU, one RAM and the GPU should remain inside with everything else disconnected. This is the smallest possible configuration and if this runs you can start to plug things in until it doesn't anymore.

To check your GPU, fix your desktop to default graphics port. If its works something is wrong with your external graphics card. If its okay then power issues could be there. If you can then test the power port you are using or else try to change them.

Hi Warrgarbl, thank you for your reply.

As I currently do not have access to a voltage probe I cannot test whether the 12V line is dead or not. However, I have used 2 of the provided 6 pin connectors for the 7770 and both produce the same problem.

As for stripping the system down barebones, the problem still arises. I am running the system with just the CPU, GPU, mobo and 1 ram stick.

Hi Smorizio.

What is this 8 pin power connector on the motherboard you are talking of? Currently I am looking at the motherboard but all i see UNUSED is a 4 pin connector saying "ATX12V". There doesn't seem to be a 4 pin connector provided from the PSU to connect to this, but there is an unused 8pin connector.

Thanks.

When I read your description of your problem, two things come in my mind immediately:

1)
First of all, check your cabeling (not only the Motherboard and GPU, other components as the case fans as well).
For example a friend of mine had the same problem, after I took a closer look I could solve the problem. A 4-pin Molex connector to a fan was defect and caused a short circuit on the system. Check the cables!!!

2)
Unfortunately I don't know the detailed specs of your system by hard, but is a 500W PSU enough?
Sapphire requires for the 7770 450W, your FX is listed with 95W as far as I know by hard.
Yeah, of course, your system will never reach those values, but can you get your hands on a PSU with more power (e.g. a 750W)? Or even another PSU to try if it's working? Maybe your PSU is defect at all.

Hi community.

As of now I have resolved the no display problem due to the fact that the 4pin ATX 12v cable wasnt plugged in. My problem i was concerned about is now fixed.

Thank you ALL!
