Hi guys, I decided that I am going to order a R9 290 Tri-x to replace my HD 5850, Since the card is 305mm (12'') I wanted to know if it will fit my case (antec three-hundred). If you are perhaps running such a configuration or know if it will fit in please let me know,
Thanks.

Sorry but that case can only fit an 11" card or 279mm:

Maximum video card size: 11"/279mm (Note: some video cards may block access to the adjacent hard drive bay)

Honestly that case is very outdated. If you want the R9 290X Tri-X, you need a better case. If you want a R9-290X in that old case, the MSI R9 290X is 10.79" which means it will just barely fit.

My opinion is still to get a new case like a Corsair 400R.

According to this, the maximum graphics card length is 11" for the original antec 300 case.

If your case is the 300 two, then I think there is more length.

One option is to remove some of the obstructing drive cage with a dremel.

But, why not just buy a more reasonable length R9-290x card in the first place?

A similarly priced GTX780ti will be 10.5" long.

I was considering removing a abit from the cage when I get the card but it looks like the part I would have to remove gives the whole case most of its rigidity, The reason why I am not getting an R9-290X or any R9 290 reference version are their temperatures (95°C during load) and fan noise, hence I decided to go for tri-x version (Temps are much lower and fan is not noisy at all). I also do not know where you found a 780 ti priced similarly to the R9 290, it costs 600€ where I live while the R9 290 tri-x costs 380€.

Because it's the quietest and coolest 290x, the two things the 290/290x cards suffered from the most. I ended up upgrading my case so I could fit it, though there were also many other reasons why I wanted a new one anyways.
