My new Evga GTX 770 won't load passed the BIOS screen.

For Christmas I got a Gigabyte GTX 770 gpu to replace my EVGA GTX 650 ti. I uninstalled the old drivers, put in the new card, and it wouldn't load. I made sure everything was updated. It wouldn't load up unless I unplugged the HDMI cable from my tv for 2 minutes, then plug it back it back in (Even that didn't work all the time).

I exchanged it for a different card, the EVGA GTX 770, but now it won't load passed BIOS at all. It'll just go to a black screen. It won't even allow me to go into the mobo BIOS or boot in safe mode. The fans are running on the card, so I know it's getting power.

But once I plug the 650 ti back in, everything boots fine. I've tried everything that I can find. Some people have had success booting in UEFI. I've tried going into the mobo BIOS with the old card plugged in and having the card load from PCI instead of Auto Detect.

I think it can be one of two things. Some sort of incompatibility with my mobo and these newer cards, or I'm doing something wrong with the power. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Build:
CPU: Intel i5 3750k
Mobo: Intel dz77ga-70k
PSU: Corsair CS 750w (modular)
Ram: Corsair Vengeance 8gb

typically any mobo compatable with the 650 ti will also be compatable with the 770, and the rest of your system looks compatible with the newer gpu.

first off, what are you using for video connection? like are you using hdmi on the gpu to hdmi on your monitor, or dvi on motherboard to dvi on monitor?

next is to make sure the card is physically plugged in fully and correctly, and that the slot on your motherboard isn't damaged (try different slots to make sure, aif you have them)

I have not updated the BIOS yet. I've been trying to do some research on how to update the BIOS since I'm fairly "green" to working with BIOS. I've been trying to research how to properly update the BIOS.

I'm going to go through this process tonight.

I've tried using both DVI and HDMI and nothing has worked. I've also tried using another slot. No go.

the only other thing i can think of is to try different monitors (borrow one from a friend, try different tv's, stuff like that, as the ports have been updated since the release of the 650 (hdmi 1.2 to 1.3 i believe, and update in other stuff). so basically, get to a point where literally everything you can think of works with the 650, and then plug in the 770. from there, plug video cord directly into the video card. If nothing on your monitor, try different screens (tv's n such) if nothing that way, try different connections. If nothing there, try a hard reset of motherboard bios (unplug that little battery on the motherboard, then plug it back in. this will reset all the changes to bios settings you have made.

if this doesnt even get you to boot, then i have run out of solutions

Go to the Motherboard manufacturer's website and look up the latest bios for you model. Put it on a USB flash drive.

Bios updates are a good option, but personally if you even installed the updated bios that came on the cd with your motherboard you should be fine (i'm still using the stock bios and havent need to upgrade for any reason even though i've upgraded my hardware a few times (msi gd-65 and asus 780). Hopefully it does fix your problem though :)

So I updated my BIOS and now the computer won't turn on. It cycles on and off, but won't even go to the BIOS screen. Do I just need to buy a new board?
