So i got a new graphics card and psu to put into my pc

Corsair 500 and nvidia 650 ti. Zoostorm windows 8.1, 16gb ddr3

Installed the psu, and then the graphics card and turned on - black screen, no beeps or anything just looked like no signal. Yes i had connected the monitor into the new card vga slot. So i turned off and tried the monitor in the factory slot - still same problem - black screen, no option to go into bios or anything - but again sounded like windows was running in the background.

So i disconnected the new card and plugged the monitor back into the motherboard/factory slot. It worked and came on.

Anyway read a few threads saying to disable the on-board graphics etc, so i went into bios and disabled them - plugged the monitor into the new slot and rebooted. Again just a black screen, so i plugged back into the motherboard slot and this time, STILL a black screen, turned off and on a few times but absolutely nothing. So i read some more threads about rebooting the bios by taking the battery out on the motherboard, thankfully this worked and got the computer running again, but obviously not with the 650 ti even plugged in, tried to plug it in again and just black screen. The fan on the 650 is working, i've checked all the power cables are in correctly, Any ideas where i am going wrong? i am a complete noob at this so would appreciate your help!!

Thanks

Does your monitor have a source button? Are you using a VGA cable to plug into the mother board and a DVI/HDMI/DP cable on your video card? Might be that your monitor's source is set to Analog and you are trying to send a digital signal.

have you installed the drivers for the gpu? this can be done with the cd (not recommended as there are other things you may not want with this option) or going to the nvidia site. This is just ONE option

another is to update the bios of your motherboard itself. another option is to try different slots. Typically disabling the integrated graphics on your cpu is a bad idea, as it can cause what you had, and is not necessary in a fully working configuration.

check the nvidia control panel (if available) and see if you can get even that to recognize the presence of the new video card.

Hi, thanks for your reply

No source button and just using the vga on both the motherboard and card, the card also has a hdmi & dvi - im going to move the pc over to the tele to try it with the hdmi - see if that works.

Hi

Thanks for your reply

Tried to load the drivers from the cd but came up with error message - not leadtek product. But if the power cable isn't even plugged into the card (as the pc won't work at all when it is plugged in), will the computer recognise that it is even there?

Trying to get the drivers now from nvidia

How do you update the bios of the motherboard?

Thanks

Is your graphics card powering on? Like can you hear the fans start up or if it has any lights on it? He was using a VGA to DVI adapter, if this is the case with yourself make sure you have the VGA adapter plugged into the proper DVI port as only one passes a VGA signal.

Well the fan doesn't start unless the 6 pin pci cable is unplugged, which i find strange - like with a couple of guys near then end of the thread. I'm going to get an adapter at the weekend and see if that works, not hopeful though by the sounds of it, thanks for your help so far.

Making some progress i think!! i can at least get the pc on now with the pci plugged in and have installed the drivers. Went into the bios and enabled the onboard graphics only instead of peg or auto and booted it up with the vga in the motherboard connection, managed to install the drivers at least and the new card is now showing in the device list - which is a start. Still got the problem of when i turn the bios back to peg or auto, that the same black screen comes up, no option for bios or anything and have to unplug the pci 6 pin to get the monitor working again, waiting on a dvi adapter which should be here tomorrow to see if that is the issue. Am i getting nearer to solving the problem, any further advice you could give me? would be greatly appreciated.
